Reuters: Fighting rages near Donetsk airport despite Ukraine ceasefire

SPARTAK, Ukraine (Reuters) - Heavy machinegun and light artillery fire pounded a district of Donetsk, the biggest city of eastern Ukraine, on Monday and pro-Russian rebels said there had been no lull in the fighting since a February ceasefire.

The Spartak district, adjacent to the city's now-flattened airport, is one of several sites in eastern Ukraine to have seen continued hostilities between the rebels and Ukrainian government forces since last month's ceasefire, brokered by France and Germany in the Belarussian capital Minsk.

The ceasefire is broadly holding in the rest of the region.

WNU Editor: There is no peace in eastern Ukraine .... just anger and fury .... and an economic blockade that is making the situation worse .... Russia accuses Kiev of tightening blockade on rebel east (Reuters). It also does not take much for the situation to explode .... case in point .... this is what happened today in Konstantinovka , a city of 100,000 that is predominantly Russian but presently under the control of Ukrainian military forces (also see above video) .... Ukrainian police get ‘shoot-to-kill orders’ amid unrest over army hit & run killing of 8yo (RT) .... sighhh .... this is not how you win the peace. Even the Ukraine government is getting nervous .... My hope still resides on finding a political solution .... but it is clear that for not both sides are not on the same page .... Hat tip to reader Rhaegar for the Konstantinovka story.
