Afghan Rivals Sign Deal to Share Power Ending Deadlock -- Bloomberg Businessweek



Afghanistan’s dueling presidential candidates signed an agreement today to share power, ending months of deadlock to pave the way for U.S. troops to remain in the country beyond this year.



Under the four-page agreement, top vote getter Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai will become president and issue a decree appointing runner-up Abdullah Abdullah as chief executive officer, Sayed Aqa Fazl Sancharaki, a spokesman for Abdullah’s camp, said by phone. Following a meeting of tribal elders and constitutional changes, Abdullah would eventually become prime minister, he said. Officials didn’t announce an inauguration date.

My Comment: As to who actually won the election .... there is some confusion on that. AP is saying that the results will be released next year .... and Afghanistan's main news service is saying today .
